Someone pointed out some really interesting parallels on /r/metalgearsolid between Big Boss’s story and Solid’s story in the Metal Gear games. Direct link if the text is hard to read. If MGSV is paralleling MGS4, we’re guaranteed to be in for a rough ride.

I’m replaying FFXIII-2, and suddenly the realization hits me.
I hope we’ll see this future in the end of Lightning Returns.

casually remembers that outer heavens original logo was a foureyed vampire nazi skull with wings
its like wtf did he tell the artist
“it needs so be so scary and evil people will piss their pants”
so the artist came up with various designs but it was never enough so he kept adding stuff to make it more evil
“THATS PERFECT”
i really dont know with this guy sometimes

Much as I’m inclined to think you’re right, and that BB just wanted a scary-looking emblem, this isn’t a Nazi swastika. The Buddhist and Nazi swastikas face different directions, and are tilted at different angles, like so:

I think the Outer Heaven skull much more closely resembles the Buddhist swastika, as it’s facing the same way and (if you tilt the skull so that it’s not at a diagonal) makes a square shape (as opposed to the Nazi’s diamond shape).
We could speculate forever about why he chose this symbol, but I just thought I’d mention that.

See my additions over here, already took that into consideration!

I feel that there’s some serious, hysterical irony going on with using similar symbols as the Nazis did, despite not being the exact same thing. I mean, The Boss gave a few years of her life to her country to FIGHT Nazism and Big Boss just decides to let a swastika slide, despite what the symbol’s common connotation is in a post WWII world.
Just imagine him thinking all about The Boss’s legacy, of all the battles she fought, the dreams and ideals she held, and then the logo designer comes into his office with this on a piece of paper and tells him that they felt this was the image that really encapsulated what Outer Heaven was all about. BB just takes one look over this giant Nazi demon skull, nods his head, and says, “Yes, this is exactly what she would have wanted. Thank you.”

JUST READING THAT MADE ME INCREDIBLY SAD.
I mean we all know this is a design taken from a game from 1987 when Metal Gear was still tiny and characters didn’t have backstories yet, but its interesting to think about stuff like this in retrospective now, to look back and compare. My post was originally meant to be entertaining (I didnt really want to start a swastika discussion), BUT I think its actually cool we got some interesting commentary and discussion out of it regardless.

Mistral’s theme will keep me awake tho vuv

bab

If I dump the coffee I’m drinking on my head that is honestly more likely to wake me up than drinking it is.

I suppose listening to the Journey OST isn’t really helping.

Me. Everyday.

Same. I doubt I’ll even get one load of laundry done today. I’ll give up and be like “no the internet is more important than me having clean clothes”

If there was a trophy you could get that was to like shoot Emma or hurt her or something I’d have to ask someone else to do it and then leave the room because I get really upset even when I accidentally get her hurt in the game.

Like no.

My wife is already going to die, I can’t deal with her getting hurt.

Instead of being productive I’m sitting here laughing at the words frickle frackle and that picture of big boss.
